Synopsis

Bringing together poets who set the stage of Slam da Quentura on fire, one of the greatest symbols of spoken word poetry in Ceará, this work is a sacred territory of resistance, affection and revolution. Each page pulses with the orality of the alleys, the fury that springs from the margins, the beauty that is born of poetry. It is an embodied word that does not ask for permission: it crosses over. It is memory, identity and future, written with sweat, scars and courage. Organized by Coletivo Fora da Métrica, Poesia Nua e Crua is not just a book, it is a collective body that dares to exist out loud. A collection that affirms: our literature does not fit into a frame, it is blood, it is spark, it is fire.

Author Biography

Coletivo Fora da Métrica

The Fora da Métrica Collective is an artistic, cultural and social movement that was born from the power of the spoken word and the urgent desire to occupy spaces with poetry, resistance and affection. Founded in 2017 in the city of Sobral, in the interior of Ceará, the collective emerged as a response to the need to build a safe, creative and free territory so that marginalized voices can echo their narratives, their pain, their loves and their existences. The result of the intersections between art, peripheral culture, orality and activism, Fora da Métrica not only promotes poetic encounters, but also creates a true community of collective construction, where the word becomes an instrument of social transformation. Its work is on the front line of strengthening spoken poetry in the state of Ceará, being responsible for organizing the Slam da Quentura, the first poetry battle in the state, and also the Slam Ceará, the state spoken poetry championship that brings together poets from different territories in Ceará. Over the years, the collective has been a platform for visibility and empowerment for young people, especially black people, LGBTQIAPN+ people, peripheral and dissident bodies, who find in the art of words a way to re-exist, resist and create. The collective's actions are not limited to poetry disputes: they include workshops, training, publications, artistic exhibitions and networking, both in the state and at the national level, integrating the Slam BR movement, which connects spoken word battles from all over Brazil. Fora da Métrica believes that poetry does not fit on the page, does not fit in the meter, does not fit in silence. For this reason, it makes the square, the stage and the street its main scenarios for creation, where art pulses alive, collective and insurgent. Each open microphone is a cry that breaks structures, each word thrown is a seed planted in the fertile ground of transformation. We often say that “the dispute is the excuse for the encounter”.
