Synopsis

This book is the result of extensive collective and individual academic work and, above all, of fruitful dialogues, exchanges, and shared bonds. It documents a significant portion of the research initiated, developed, and matured within the History, Gender, and Latin America Study and Research Group (GEHGAL) from its inception at the Vale do Acaraú State University in Sobral, Ceará, in May 2020, through 2026.
Born during the difficult and uncertain early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, the group was conceived by Professor Gleidiane de Sousa Ferreira and Professor Ítalo Bezerra Viana. They envisioned a space to foster academic research and critical thinking grounded in discussions within the fields of Women’s History, Gender and Feminist Studies, and Latin American Studies. At the same time, the group sought to create a welcoming space—meeting weekly and later bi-weekly—for all of us who, during that period, were struggling amidst a dystopian political landscape and a daily reality of tragedy and loss, all while witnessing remote formats encroach upon our teaching and learning relationships.
