Synopsis

Therefore, as an introduction, in Part 1 – History, Politics, Press and Society – we have articles that address the influence of newspapers in the cities of Sobral and Ipu, as well as analyses of the dictatorial periods of Getúlio Vargas and the civil-military dictatorship that began with the 1964 coup. To close this section, we have a text that addresses conservatism in the country through the marches held in the name of God and family in 1964 and recently in 2021.

In Part 2 – History, Memory and Education – the authors, in some way, immersed themselves in the issues discussed in a degree course, bringing stories from their own professional training, access to education, programs and public policies aimed at improving educational indicators, as well as the histories of education in their municipalities of origin. Finally, in Part 3 - History, Culture and Daily Life, the reader will encounter diverse themes that permeate the daily life of the cities presented, such as the trajectory of a group of poets who meet on Saturdays in Sobral to read, create and live poetry, as well as the conversations of elderly women reminiscing about their lives in a district of the municipality of Ubajara. Brazilian cinema and football, in turn, are analyzed as factors of Brazilian identity, as well as spaces of resistance, but also where discourses of prejudice and hatred emerge. It is worth highlighting here the use of oral history methodology in some of these works.
