Synopsis

SINDSEMS was born in the context of the so-called new unionism, which in practice questioned and overcame the union model imposed by the Getúlio Vargas government, a model in which union entities were tied to the State. During the Civil-Military Dictatorship, workers faced crises in the face of a union tied to the State and leaders being persecuted and tortured. However, despite this scenario of persecution of unions, during the redemocratization process in the 1980s, there was a considerable change in the actions of these entities, and more specifically in the ABC region of São Paulo, building a new form of union activity with protagonism and direct action in factories and public and private companies.
